Tamper-Proof Registration Behind Glass

To curb the growing incidence of vehicle theft, some countries are using a "third license plate," which is affixed to the inside of the windshield, in addition to the "conventional" license plates at the vehicle’s front and rear.  This tamper-proof registration document facilitates early detection of stolen vehicles and deters potential thieves.

The self-adhesive credit card-sized seal bears the vehicle's registration data issued by the licensing authorities and is protected against tampering and theft. The seal's holographic layer and print are destroyed in an attempt to detach the seal from the windshield.

The "third license plate” is pre-printed with basic, country-specific legal information for subsequent addition of vehicle-specific registration data by the issuing authorities.
